Digital Badges
Empowering Teachers for a Technology-Enabled Future

As classrooms across India rapidly adopt technology, government school teachers often find themselves struggling to keep pace. To bridge this gap,
Rukmani Trust—in collaboration with TISS and Tata Trusts—has funded the innovative Digital Badge Course, a professional development programme designed to equip teachers for a technology-enabled future.
Digital badges are more than certificates. They are globally recognised micro-credentials that validate practical skills, authentic classroom practices, and ongoing professional growth. Research shows they help teachers build confidence, personalise their learning, and adopt new teaching strategies at scale.
Through this programme, teachers receive hands-on training in:
- New-age teaching techniques grounded in real classroom experience
- Interactive and engaging learning strategies that improve student participation
- Integrating technology meaningfully into everyday lessons
The initiative has already demonstrated significant impact. In field studies conducted in Assam, teachers from over 220 schools successfully completed digitally badged courses, with 92% supporting statewide adoption and 96% believing the programme would improve student learning.
The badges also fostered strong peer learning networks, with teachers actively sharing their achievements and supporting one another through online communities.
By making teacher professional development more accessible, relevant, and scalable, the Digital Badge Course is helping prepare educators for a digital future—and, in turn, ensuring that students across India experience richer, more engaging learning in the classroom.
